02.28.2008 // Atomic Bindings Bindings are funny things. They're essential, really; if you want to ride a snowboard, you need bindings. But should companies design + manufacture them so that they are aesthetically neutral, thus allowing users to mix and match hardware from various brands? Or, alternatively, should there be visual connections among boards, boots, bindings [and, to be completely over the top as some companies are, pants, jackets, goggles, hats and various other accouterments]? We're generally of the latter school of thought, minus the whole match-your-beanie-to- your-boots approach. And so, given that Circus is in the throes of designing Atomic's '09-'10 board graphics, who better to visually align the boards with the bindings and vice versa? So, in the next several months, that's what we'll be doing: designing bindings. A first for us, which is fantastic--we like doing new things. They'll ultimately hit shelves in, like, nineteen months. It's a while to wait, yes. But come Winter of 2009, you can biff a Polarity board, a Glamour boot and a Mai Tai binding and look all sorts of put-together. Then all you'll need is a matching cap. |
